Prior to relocating to Nevada in 2001, I was
a long time Montanan. I attended the University of Montana
as both an undergraduate and law school student. After graduating
from the University of Montana School of Law, Judge Deborah
Schumacher provided me with an amazing opportunity to clerk
for her in the Second Judicial District Court in Washoe
County, Nevada.
In addition to courts of general jurisdiction
- which deal with a variety of issues including criminal
and civil - Washoe County also employs a special family
court to deal with domestic relations issues. The judges
and court staff in these courts were dedicated to family
law issues.
In 2001, my husband and I left Montana and
moved to Nevada where I began my professional career in
family law. I served as a law clerk to the Washoe County
Family Court for four years where I had the honor of working
with and learning from Judge Deborah Schumacher, Judge Charles
McGee, Judge Frances Doherty and Judge Scott Jordan.
In 2005, after the birth of my son, I left
the court and began working in private practice. In private
practice, I remain dedicated to family law issues and am
privileged to work with other attorneys who have done the
same.
I am secretary to the family court bench bar
committee, a volunteer for Family Lawyer in the Library,
and serve as a board member for the Court Appointed Special
Advocates for Children (CASA) program. I previously served
as a board member to Washoe Legal Services and worked with
other Nevada lawyers to draft the amicus curie brief for
the recent Nevada Supreme Court decision in Rivero v. Rivero.
Family law cases address some of the issues
that matter most - who we are, what we work for, our past,
present and future. I understand what is at stake and work
hard to meet each client's needs.
